moving at such a frantic pace thanks to technological advances in mobile
communication tools. No doubt, these tools keep our minds busy, active and
really make things more effective. But they also have their downside mostly as
a result of our own shortcomings. So many times we find ourselves getting
irritated as a result of people’s misuse of their devices, social blunders we are
all guilty off. At business meetings, restaurants and even on dates, people
observe social etiquette with very little caution like answering calls to
reading text messages and chats at important meetings. So, what then is the
appropriate way to use a device?
There really are no ironclad rules- none that is generally known - as to how and when you should answer a call, read a text or plug in your headset. The most important thing is being aware of your environment and the sensibilities of others when you have to attend to your devices. You might be saying to yourself, what if there is an emergency while on a date or in a meeting, how do I to respond to a call? Nobody wants to consciously come across to others as hasty and flustered about situations, when an events plays out that way, the appropriate thing to do would be to excuse you, glance at the phone then put it on silence. But off course if it is really important, then you should expect your phone to ring again, repeat the one more time, if it rings afterwards you can answer not without first excusing yourself. Even your acquaintance(s) would willingly oblige.
This is just one aspect. There are many ways we unwittingly fall short, we see countless numbers of such events every day. People yelling suddenly on their phone like they are about to start a fight with you, talking loudly in an elevator, wearing headphones while in a gathering with others and playing colorful mobile games that have many sweets, stars and jelly while hanging out with others. We can lose potentially great relationships in business and social relations if we continue to act in a careless manner.
As important as our devices are we shouldn’t allow them affect our social graces. We are still humans and we all expect to be treated courteously always.
